Cookies only if you allow them.
The site sets cookies for one thing, Google Analytics, and only if you say yes. Google reCAPTCHA may set its own, only if you send a message.

In short
- 01Analytics cookies only with your permission, and you can change your mind here.
- 02Google reCAPTCHA may set its own, only when you send a message.
- 03A few settings stay in your browser, listed below.
01Analytics cookies
Google Analytics shows me which pages and chapters people reach and what they open. With your permission it sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_*, that tell your visits apart for up to two years; nothing is used for advertising. Without it, visits are still counted, but with no cookies. The privacy policy says what it collects.
Your choice is below, and in the story’s settings. Turning the cookies down later also removes the ones already set.
02What it keeps in your browser
Everything the site keeps on your device is listed here. The settings stay in your browser’s local and session storage and are never sent anywhere; the cookies are Google Analytics’, set only if you allow them.
| Key | Where | What it’s for | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
signal-motion | Local storage | Whether you chose the 3D story or the lite view | Until you clear it |
signal-mark | Local storage | That you left your mark at the end of the story, and when | Until you clear it |
signal-guide | Local storage | That you’ve seen the guide to the controls, so it isn’t shown again | Until you clear it |
arrival-seen-v3 | Session storage | Plays the opening descent once per visit | Until you close the tab |
signal-consent | Local storage | Whether you allowed analytics cookies, so you’re only asked once | Until you clear it |
_ga | Cookie | Google Analytics: tells your visits apart. Set only if you allow analytics cookies | 2 years |
_ga_* | Cookie | Google Analytics: keeps track of the current visit. Set only if you allow analytics cookies | 2 years |
03When you send a message
The contact form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which tells people from bots. It loads only when you press send, never before, and Google may then set its own cookies for that check. Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply to it. If you’d rather not, email me instead.
04If that changes
Any other cookie added later will be listed here, with what it does and how long it lasts, before it is used.
